The European Startup Initiative and Deep Ecosystems has released the Startup Heatmap Europe Report 2022, the seventh of its kind, and guess what! Berlin comes out tops again. Berlin is officially the founders’ favorite, Europe’s most popular startup city. Not only that, Berlin has “unicorn ecosystem status”, has seen huge growth in venture capital invested, and also a 13% rise in seed investment. According to the report, Berlin leads the ranking in creation of remote jobs, and only Tel Aviv has more tech meetup events. The report does its best to understand what figures really mean, for instance, how much investment money is actually worth. “Taking the median cost of a senior developer as a baseline”, Berlin has a higher purchasing power with raised money per startup than anywhere else. Berlin’s success may in some measure be because Germany constitutes the largest target market outside of the US, according to European founders. Also, there are 178 startup support organizations in Berlin.
