Green Methanol Instead Of Diesel For Ships
Using “quantum chemistry”, the Green Chemicals AG, otherwise known as Carbon One or C1, produces non-fossil methanol from excess biomass and waste plastic. Last year we reported that the world's largest shipping company, Danish Maersk, ordered 12 container ships powered by methanol. By now Maersk has ordered a total of 19 such ships and invested undisclosed millions in C1, with existing investors such as Paua Ventures and Planet A Ventures tagging along. Serial founder Christian Vollmann launched Carbon One in 2022 with chemists Marek Checinski, Ralph Krähnert and Christoph Zehe. Together they want to decarbonize shipping, which accounts for about three percent of global CO2 emissions, as startbase reports.
