Heat Pump Installer montamo Secures €6M in Seed Funding

Berlin-based montamo, a next-generation heat pump installation service, has secured €6 million in seed funding to expand its operations across Germany, according to a company press release. The round was led by Alter Equity with participation from U.S. fund Rethink Education and existing investors Project A Ventures and Firstminute Capital.

Founded in 2023 by Alexander Böhm and Ole Schaumberg, montamo provides installation services for heat pump manufacturers and vendors in Germany, where approximately 75% of residential buildings still rely on gas or oil heating systems. The company has demonstrated impressive growth during its first year of operation.

"Our mission is to boost the installation of energy transition assets for households in Germany by providing manufacturers and distributors with a turnkey service," said co-founder Alexander Böhm.

What sets montamo apart is its innovative in-house academy that trains individuals facing employment barriers. The company reports that 60% of trainees were previously unemployed and 92% come from migration backgrounds. This approach addresses both the critical labor shortage in the green energy sector and provides career paths for underrepresented groups.

"We are not just installing heat pumps; we are building the teams that will enable the energy transition," explained co-founder Ole Schaumberg.

The environmental impact is equally significant - montamo's projected heat pump installations over the next five years could prevent nearly 1 million tons of CO₂ emissions over their lifespan. The company aims to train and hire more than 1,000 individuals during this period, creating substantial social impact alongside its environmental contributions.

The funding round marks Alter Equity's second investment in Germany, with Fanny Picard, Chairman of Alter Equity, highlighting how montamo's business model aligns with their strategy to support startups contributing to environmental and social well-being.
