Micro-mobility Giant TIER Buys Ford’s Spin
In 2021, Berlin-based micro-mobility company TIER bought up competitor Nextbike. After a $200 million Series D funding round at the end of 2021, TIER founders Lawrence Leuschner, Matthias Laug and Julian Blessin have turned their attention stateside and bought Spin from Ford, as Tech.eu reports. With that, TIER has ebikes and escooters in over 100 cities in North America. And not just any old scooters. Spin has some interesting tech, including charging infrastructure and sidewalk-riding detection. Sustainability is a shared value, and TIER’s CEO Leuschner commented, “We are excited to support citizens in cities and communities across North America to make the switch from cars to more sustainable urban mobility solutions.” Ford remains in the mix as strategic investor in TIER.
