Milestone Systems has announced the acquisition of Berlin-based brighter AI, effective April 1, 2025. According to a press release from Milestone, this strategic move adds cutting-edge anonymization technology to the company's portfolio.
brighter AI specializes in providing anonymization solutions for video data using state-of-the-art deep learning technology to protect people's identities in public spaces. Their technology helps address growing concerns around data privacy in an era of advancing artificial intelligence.
One of the major challenges in AI development is accessing sufficient data that doesn't contain sensitive personal information, particularly in video formats. brighter AI's technology offers regulatory-compliant data solutions by enhancing privacy protection.
The acquisition strengthens Milestone's video management software offerings and supports their recently announced data library and AI model training tool, Project Hafnia. By combining two European tech leaders focused on responsible AI development, this move aims to bolster Europe's position in the global technology landscape.
"brighter AI is a perfect match for Milestone. Their proven technology is top-notch and will give us a wider offering to existing and future technology partners and customers," said Thomas Jensen of Milestone Systems.
Founded in 2017, brighter AI was named "Europe's Hottest AI Startup" by Nvidia for their Deep Natural Anonymization solution, which automatically detects personal identifiers and generates synthetic replacements. The company's 24 employees will continue working as part of a separate business area within Milestone.
This acquisition represents a significant step in addressing privacy concerns while enabling the development of AI technologies that require large datasets for training and improvement.
