Tesla’s gigafactory in Brandenburg near Berlin is churning out 2000 electric cars a month, which corresponds to about one fifth of the target in the first phase. Their only production site in Europe employs approximately 7000 people. Now the next expansion phase has begun, which entails clearing 70 hectares of pine forest. However, 300 hectares of mixed forest have been reforested so far in response, according to Tesla. Brandenburg’s Economics Minister Jörg Steinbach (SPD) called it a good sign. “Brandenburg is increasingly becoming a substantial location for the modern automotive industry in Germany, and Tesla, now Brandenburg’s largest industrial employer and vocational trainer, has played a decisive role in this.” After the expansion, more than 12,000 employees will be able to work at Giga Berlin.
